Normal dispersion (source code)

= Normal dispersion

In <normal dispersion>, the <refractive index> increases with frequency, $dn/d\omega>0$, equivalently $dn/d\lambda<0$ for vacuum wavelength $\lambda$. Transparent regions away from isolated absorption resonances often have this behaviour. Near a resonance the slope can reverse, producing <anomalous dispersion> accompanied by absorption.
