Numerical method
= Numerical method
A <numerical method> is an <algorithm> for computing an exact or approximate solution to a mathematical problem through finitely many <arithmetic operations> and other prescribed steps. For example, <Gaussian elimination> solves a <linear system> exactly in exact arithmetic, whereas finite precision can introduce <roundoff error>.
