An <optical cavity> supports optical fields whose phases and spatial profiles reproduce themselves after a round trip through its reflecting or guiding elements. Its resonance conditions include propagation and reflection phases. A cavity bounded by two plane mirrors is a simple example; <Fabry–Pérot resonance spacing> describes the frequency intervals of an ideal two-mirror arrangement.
