Order identification by autocorrelation cutoffs
= Order identification by autocorrelation cutoffs
For minimal causal and invertible models, the <partial autocorrelation function> cuts off after the order of a pure <autoregressive model>, whereas the <autocorrelation function> cuts off after the order of a pure <moving-average model>. Estimated cutoffs suggest candidate orders; finite-sample noise and residual diagnostics still matter.
