The primitive translations connect the two centred-rectangular sublattices. In the orientations marked in the source, $\mathbf a_p$ points right and down, whereas $\mathbf b_p$ points right and up. Thus
$$
\boxed{\mathbf a_p=\frac12(\mathbf a_r-\mathbf b_r),\qquad\mathbf b_p=\frac12(\mathbf a_r+\mathbf b_r).}
$$
Their parallelogram has half the area of the rectangular cell, confirming that the latter contains two <primitive unit cells>.
