For a bounded <self-adjoint operator>, $g$ is orthogonal to its range exactly when $\langle Lf,g\rangle=\langle f,Lg\rangle=0$ for every $f$, or equivalently $Lg=0$. Consequently
$$
\boxed{\overline{\operatorname{ran}L}=(\ker L)^{\perp}=H\quad\hbox{if }\ker L=\{0\}.}
$$
This is <image-kernel orthogonality for an adjoint>. Taking the double <orthogonal complement> gives the closure; it does not assert that the range itself is closed.
