= Solution

For <matrices> $A,B$ and scalars $r,s\in\mathbb F$, the definition of the <trace> gives
$$
\operatorname{Tr}(rA+sB)=\sum_i(ra_{ii}+sb_{ii})=r\operatorname{Tr}(A)+s\operatorname{Tr}(B).
$$
Hence \b[the trace is a linear functional] on the <vector space> of $n\times n$ <matrices>.
