The <determinant> is continuous, so
$$
GL(n,\mathbb R)=\det^{-1}(\mathbb R\setminus\{0\})
$$
is open in $\mathbb R^{n^2}$. It is therefore a smooth manifold of dimension $n^2$, and
$$
\boxed{T_I GL(n,\mathbb R)=M_n(\mathbb R).}
$$
