On the negative half-line, <differentiation> gives $d\ln(-u)/du=1/u$. The integration path from $-1$ to $x<0$ stays away from the singularity at zero. Therefore
$$
\boxed{F(x)=\int_{-1}^{x}\frac{du}{u}=\ln(-x)-\ln1=\ln(-x),\qquad x<0.}
$$
This choice satisfies $F(-1)=0$.
