Apply the identity from (c) to the two real <eigenfunctions>. The equations of their <Sturm-Liouville problem> give
$$
0=\int_{-L}^L\left(f_n\mathcal Lf_m-f_m\mathcal Lf_n\right)dx
=(\lambda_m-\lambda_n)\int_{-L}^Lwf_nf_m\,dx.
$$
Since the <eigenvalues> differ,
$$
\boxed{\int_{-L}^Lw(x)f_n(x)f_m(x)\,dx=0.}
$$
This is <orthogonality> in the <weighted inner product>.
