Expand before taking the <second derivative>:
$$
f(x)=e^{3x}+3e^x+3e^{-x}+e^{-3x},\qquad f''(x)=9e^{3x}+3e^x+3e^{-x}+9e^{-3x}>0.
$$
The <second-derivative criterion for convexity> proves that \b[$f$ is <strictly convex>], hence <convex>.
