Peculiar velocity is motion relative to the homogeneous Hubble flow. In comoving coordinates,
$$
\mathbf u=aH\mathbf x+\mathbf v,
$$
where $\mathbf u$ is physical velocity and $\mathbf v$ is peculiar velocity.
