= Pell-type norm from a periodic continued fraction

For the even convergents of $\sqrt{11}$,
$$
p_{2m}+q_{2m}\sqrt{11}
=(3+\sqrt{11})(10+3\sqrt{11})^m.
$$
Since the second factor has norm one, every such convergent satisfies $p_{2m}^2-11q_{2m}^2=-2$.
