The <pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ligand> is the anion $\mathrm{C_5Me_5^-}$, normally a six-<electron> $\eta^5$ donor in ionic <electron counting>. Its methyl substituents change <steric hindrance> and <electron> donation relative to an unsubstituted <cyclopentadienyl ligand>.
