Coexistence without a thermodynamic driving <force> for further exchange. Phases able to exchange heat and constituents have equal <temperature> and <chemical potentials> of the exchanging species. Mechanical balance is also needed; interface <curvature> can require a pressure jump rather than equal bulk pressures.
