A principal connection can be specified by a $G$-equivariant horizontal distribution $H\subset TP$ complementary to the vertical bundle, or equivalently by a Lie-algebra-valued connection form $\mathcal A$ that reproduces infinitesimal generators and has $H=\ker\mathcal A$.
