A projective resolution of an $R$-module $M$ is an exact sequence
$$
\cdots\longrightarrow P_2\longrightarrow P_1\longrightarrow P_0\longrightarrow M\longrightarrow0
$$
in which every $P_i$ is a <projective module>.
