Proline-catalysed aldol reaction
= Proline-catalysed aldol reaction
An <enamine> formed reversibly between <proline> and an enolizable <carbonyl compound> attacks an electrophilic <carbonyl>. The carboxylic acid group can orient and activate the electrophile; <hydrolysis> releases the aldol product and regenerates <proline>.
