Proper vector subspace
= Proper vector subspace
{title2=$U\subsetneq V$}
A proper <vector subspace> of a <vector space> is one strictly smaller than the ambient space. In a finite-dimensional <vector space>, this is equivalent to having smaller <dimension>: a <basis> of the subspace can be extended to a <basis> of the ambient space, and strict inclusion requires at least one additional <vector>.
