At the current state $x$, a <Metropolis–Hastings algorithm> draws a candidate state $y$ from its proposal distribution $q(\mathord\cdot\mid x)$. The <Metropolis–Hastings acceptance probability> corrects the proposal's bias so that the target distribution remains invariant.
