= Rayleigh quotient

For a self-adjoint operator $H$, the Rayleigh quotient is
$$
R[\psi]=\frac{\langle\psi|H|\psi\rangle}{\langle\psi|\psi\rangle}.
$$
For a symmetric matrix this reduces to $x^TAx/(x^Tx)$.
