= Retract of a contractible space

Every retract of a contractible space is contractible. If $i:A\hookrightarrow X$ is the inclusion, $r:X\to A$ is a retraction, and $H$ contracts $X$, then
$$
(a,t)\longmapsto r(H(i(a),t))
$$
contracts $A$.
