Rytov approximation

The Rytov approximation writes a total wave field as $\psi=\psi_i e^\phi$ and linearizes the equation for the complex logarithmic perturbation $\phi$. At first order, $\psi_i\phi$ equals the first <Born approximation> scattered field, so
$$
\psi_R=\psi_i\exp(\psi_{s,B}/\psi_i).
$$
It can remain useful when phase accumulation is appreciable but local scattering is weak.
