Through-bond interaction between nuclear <spins> that splits <NMR> resonances. In the weak-coupling limit, $n$ equivalent spin-$\tfrac12$ neighbours produce $n+1$ lines with <binomial coefficient> intensities. Equivalent nuclei do not split each other.
