A specified asymptotic configuration of the particles and their internal <quantum states> in <quantum scattering>. An incoming channel can scatter into several outgoing channels; <S-matrix> elements give their <probability amplitudes> with a stated <probability current> normalization. A channel can be energetically inaccessible even when other channels are open.
