An analytical form of <gel electrophoresis> using an anionic <surfactant> and a <polymer> gel to separate <proteins> predominantly by chain size under denaturing conditions. <Western blot separation> often uses <SDS-PAGE>; the resulting apparent <mass> and subsequent <antibody> binding provide complementary, incomplete evidence about identity.
