The <SEC void volume> $V_0$ is the interparticle liquid volume, operationally measured by a sufficiently large excluded, nonbinding tracer. It excludes pore liquid. Choose a tracer that does not undergo <adsorption> or change the packing; correct the measured elution for tubing and detector delay before identifying it with a column-only $V_0$.
