Second-difference integral formula (source code)

= Second-difference integral formula

For a twice continuously differentiable function and $h\geq0$, the <fundamental theorem of calculus> gives
$$
f(x+h)-2f(x)+f(x-h)=\int_{-h}^h(h-|u|)f''(x+u)\,du.
$$
The nonnegative triangular weight has integral $h^2$, so its <supremum norm> estimate directly controls the <second modulus of smoothness>.
