The SI model divides a closed population into susceptible and permanently infectious compartments. Under frequency-dependent homogeneous mixing,
$$
\dot S=-\beta SI/N,
\qquad
\dot I=\beta SI/N,
$$
and <conservation of population> gives $S+I=N$.
