A one-dimensional group representation. For connected semisimple groups such as SU(2) or SU(3), its continuous irreducible <singlet representation>[singlet] is trivial, so all Lie-algebra generators act as zero. A <singlet representation>[singlet] of one subgroup need not be a <singlet representation>[singlet] of a larger group.
