= Singular chain complex

The <chain complex> whose degree-$n$ group is freely generated over $R$ by the <singular simplices> $\sigma:\Delta^n\to X$. Its boundary is the alternating sum of restrictions to codimension-one faces. The <homology> of this complex is <singular homology>.
