Spatial resolution
= Spatial resolution
The ability of an imaging or measurement system to distinguish nearby spatial features. A resolution criterion must specify the features and measurement conditions: <diffraction>, <noise> and sampling can all limit the distinction. A small pixel spacing alone does not establish high spatial resolution; <electron microscope resolution> illustrates the role of <wavelength> and <numerical aperture>.
