The real Stiefel manifold $V_k(\mathbb R^n)$ consists of ordered orthonormal $k$-frames in $\mathbb R^n$. In particular, $V_2(\mathbb R^{m+1})$ is naturally the <unit tangent bundle> of $S^m$.
