The Stiefel–Whitney classes of a real rank-$d$ vector bundle are classes

w_i(E)\in H^i(X;\mathbb F_2),
\qquad 0\leq i\leq d.
$$
Their total class is $w(E)=1+w_1(E)+\cdots+w_d(E)$.
