= Structure-sheaf sequence of a hypersurface

If a homogeneous polynomial $f_d$ of degree $d$ cuts out a projective hypersurface $i:X\hookrightarrow\mathbb P^n$, multiplication by $f_d$ gives the short exact sequence
$$
0\longrightarrow\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^n}(-d)\xrightarrow{\cdot f_d}\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^n}\longrightarrow i_*\mathcal O_X\longrightarrow0.
$$
