For a regular self-adjoint Sturm-Liouville problem, eigenfunctions are orthogonal in the weighted inner product
$$
\langle f,g\rangle_w=\int fgw,
$$
and the coefficient of $y_n$ is $\langle f,y_n\rangle_w/\langle y_n,y_n\rangle_w$.
