Surface-brightness conservation in gravitational lensing (source code)

= Surface-brightness conservation in gravitational lensing

In <geometric optics> without absorption, phase-space conservation preserves $I_\nu/\nu^3$ along a ray. Relative images of the same source at a common <redshift> therefore preserve <surface brightness> while changing apparent angular area and integrated flux. Source structure and propagation effects can introduce observed wavelength dependence.
