Tidal dissipation
= Tidal dissipation
Tidal dissipation converts mechanical <energy> associated with a time-varying tidal deformation into <heat>. It can circularize an eccentric orbit, synchronize spin, and contribute deep planetary heating. A perfectly synchronized circular orbit with no additional forcing need not sustain substantial <tidal heating>.
