= Traction

Traction is the <force> per unit area transmitted across an oriented surface. For unit <normal vector> $\mathbf n$, the <stress> <tensor> gives $\mathbf t=\boldsymbol\sigma\mathbf n$. Its normal component is normal stress, and its tangential component is <shear stress>.
