Transcendence theory
= Transcendence theory
Transcendence theory proves that particular numbers are not <algebraic numbers>, or that several numbers satisfy no nonzero polynomial relation with algebraic coefficients. A recurring method constructs an auxiliary expression which is simultaneously too small analytically and too large arithmetically if the proposed values were algebraic.
