<Triethanolamine> is the tertiary <amine> $\mathrm{N(CH_2CH_2OH)_3}$. It combines a proton-accepting nitrogen with three hydroxyl-containing arms.

The different donor atoms permit metal coordination and hydrogen bonding, while nitrogen protonation changes its charge. The molecule therefore illustrates how several functional groups can give a compound multiple roles in solutions and formulations.
