A planar <equilibrium point> whose <Jacobian matrix> has nonreal conjugate <eigenvalues> with positive real part. Its nearby linearized trajectories rotate while their amplitude grows exponentially; the smooth nonlinear system has the same local qualitative behavior when the equilibrium is hyperbolic.
