A tropical zonal overturning circulation in the <terrestrial atmosphere>, coupled to east–west ocean <temperature> contrasts. Its mean Pacific branch has rising air over the warmer western Pacific and sinking air farther east. The circulation is named after <Gilbert Walker>.
