The WKB method seeks a rapidly oscillating field in the form
$$
\phi(x,t)=A(x,t;\varepsilon)e^{i\theta(x,t)/\varepsilon},
\qquad 0<\varepsilon\ll1,
$$
and determines the phase and slowly varying amplitude order by order in $\varepsilon$.
