Introduction and Figure1 distinguish the narrowband Raman pump from the broadband short probe and discuss spectral resolution. Materials and Methods, Instrumentation/Figure2, describes spectrally filtered pump light near793nm, a sapphire-generated continuum, spectrograph and dual-diode-array probe/reference detection; cyclohexane gain bands provide a non-biological physical-spectroscopy example. Data Collection, equation4, forms a dark-corrected, reference-normalized pump-on/pump-off gain ratio.
Data Collection specifies a 97 ms detector exposure containing 97 probe/reference pulse pairs, followed by 10 ms readout with detector-exposure shutter S2 closed. Raman-pump shutter S1 switches state during readout, producing alternating pump-on/off exposures. These simultaneous probe/reference measurements constrain exposure allocation in pairs; live exposure time excludes the closed-shutter readout. [ref]
