Joseph Lieberman is an American politician and attorney who served as a United States Senator from Connecticut from 1989 to 2013. He was a member of the Democratic Party for most of his career but became an independent in 2006. Lieberman was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2000, running alongside presidential candidate Al Gore.
