Edward Nairne (1726–1806) was an English inventor and instrument maker known for his contributions to the field of electrostatics and the development of instruments used for measuring electrical phenomena. He is often recognized for inventing the first electrical machine that utilized a revolving glass cylinder, which was an improvement on earlier designs. Nairne's work helped pave the way for later developments in electrical engineering and experimentation.
