Frank Hornby (1863–1936) was a British inventor, businessman, and toy designer, best known for creating the popular construction toys Meccano, Hornby Trains, and Dinky Toys. His invention of Meccano in 1898 introduced a system of metal strips, gears, and wheels that allowed children to construct intricate models, thus encouraging creativity and engineering skills.
