Johan Galtung is a prominent Norwegian sociologist, mathematician, and the principal founder of the field of peace and conflict studies. Born on October 24, 1930, Galtung is best known for his contributions to understanding conflict dynamics, peacebuilding, and nonviolent resolution of conflicts. He founded the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) in 1959 and has been a significant figure in promoting research and dialogue related to peace studies.
