U-statistics are a class of statistics that are particularly useful for estimating parameters of a population based on a sample. They are constructed from random samples and are defined using a symmetric kernel, which is a function of the sample points. U-statistics are widely used in statistical inference, including hypothesis testing and confidence interval construction.
